Cigarette smokers who have grown tired of rising tobacco taxes are taking advantage of a legal loophole to obtain cheaper smokes, the Wall Street Journal reports. But retailers offering such aid are attracting the interest of regulators.
According to the Journal, smoke shops are now offering roll-your-own cigarette machines, which can produce a carton’s worth of cigarettes for about half the price of a commercial carton. But those shops doing so may well be violating both U.S. and state laws.
