retail store layout

Attracting new customers is essential to being a successful retail store. The visual appearance inside and outside your store can sometimes be the difference between people wanting to see what you have to offer and turning away. Here are a few ideas for creating an atmosphere that’s pleasing to view from all angles so more customers will want to shop from your business.

Displays

From the sign at the roadway to the signs that are displayed on your store windows, you need to create a design that’s memorable for customers. Use colors that stand out and text that is easy to read. Think of the details of your store and the items that you sell that set you apart from other businesses, using those details to make your signs unique and attractive.

Outdoor Displays

If you have large items that are easy to move around, then consider putting some of them outside your store to give customers a taste of what you offer. Another option would be to use stackable bins, such as these from Quantum Storage, to create a large display. These bins can feature everything from clothes and shoes to books and toys, depending on what you sell. Make the display attractive with bright signs and large text that clearly shows the price of the items and whether or not they are on sale.

Decorations

When customers enter your store, they don’t want to see plain walls and displays, as noted by The Retail Doctor,  Bob Phibbs. Add some color to the walls by using posters and pictures of the things you sell. Consider displaying items that are harder to find in the store to let customers know that they are available. Another option is to place large signs on the walls to indicate where products are located as well as where customers can find clearance deals.

Clear Organization

When customers enter the store, it can be a hassle to sift through clothing of all sizes to find what they want or products that aren’t organized on the shelves. Try to create departments in your store that are clearly organized and labeled. Keep each area stocked and as neat as possible so that customers see that you care about the appearance of your store.

A retail store should offer a fun and enjoyable shopping experience for customers. As the owner, you need to do everything possible to ensure that customers want to shop in your store. As you gain more customers and learn about what they desire, you can change some of the details to attract more customers in the future.
