Angry Birds, one of the most popular iPhone and Smartphone games of 2010, has helped launch a complete line of branded products, and Long Island based, Novelty Poster, has them all for immediate delivery. “We were at the ASD Show in Las Vegas in March, and had people lining up to place their orders,” says Novelty Poster president, Jeff Sokoloff. “It’s the hottest item we’ve carried in 15 years,” adds VP, Jimmy Narine. The company got wind of the trend as more and more people began downloading the game, in which players use a slingshot to launch angry birds at objects stationed on or within various structures, with the intent of destroying everything on the playfield. “Customers then started calling us, asking if we had the characters available as toys,” Sokoloff says. “We made some calls and stocked up with everything we could get.”
Novelty Poster currently carries about 15 different items in the line, and requires a minimum one case order. Wholesale prices range from $6 for the five inch plush Angry Bird to $8.50 for the eight inch size, and retailers are getting keystone and more. Other items available include key chains, figurines, lanyards, backpack clip-ons, T-shirts, puzzles and baseball hats. “We haven’t seen anything like this in quite some time,” Sokoloff says. “We expect Angry Birds to continue to be a strong seller through the rest of the year.”
