Consumers continue to search for USA-made merchandise, as proven by yet another study done on shopper buying behavior. In late 2020, The Reshoring Institute surveyed nearly 500 Americans across the country, asking if they prefer to buy products that are labeled “made in the USA,” and if they would be willing to pay more for these items. Nearly 70 percent of respondents said they prefer American-made goods and slightly more than 80 percent said they would pay up to 20 percent more for merchandise made domestically.
Retailers are catching on to consumer interests, and they are sourcing more items that are made in America. In early February of 2021, Faire hosted their virtual Winter Market, where made in the USA and handmade were some of the most sought-after brands. Both categories had 50,000 orders placed during the three-day event.
The strong preference for American-made merchandise has been a growing trend over the past several years, and the Reshoring Institute survey along with Faire’s Winter Market both validate what we have all been hearing and reading about.
