An old family tradition has become one of the hottest doll sellers this holiday season, and looks to continue that streak for years to come. Christopher Pop-In-Kins was started in 1984 by Flora Johnson of Atwater, OH. She told her children about Christopher, who “pops in” to children’s homes during the holiday season, appearing in a different location every day. He then “pops back” to the North Pole on Christmas Eve, to tell Santa about his adventures. Christopher comes complete with a storybook about his origins and history. The doll and book have been popular sellers in both the U.S. and other countries.
Before she passed away in 2005, Johnson had made 10,000 of the dolls by hand at her kitchen table. Her son, wanting to keep the tradition alive, reached out to David Kuntzman, now president of Pop-In-Kins, who found an illustrator and updated Christopher’s story. Christopher was reintroduced in 2008, and was joined this year by a new character, his sister, Christina Pop-In-Kins. The dolls wholesale for $12.50 each, which includes their own storybook, and retail for $25, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the doll’s founding.
Pop-In-Kins Ltd. also offers a POP display that holds 24 units, which sells for $25 with a three case or less order. The price for both the POP and the dolls is negotiable for larger orders. Customers are sure to flock to these dolls, which have won numerous awards from parenting groups, including the National Parenting Center 2010 Seal of Approval and 2010 Parent Tested, Parent Approved Award for Christopher, and the Creative Child’s Book of the Year and one of Dr. Toys’ Top Picks of 2010 for Christina.
