In a move seen by many as a boon to small business and a possible sign of things to come, the Vermont senate has voted to approve legislation easing credit card rules for merchants.
The Burlington Free Press sayss the bill specifically would allow merchants to offer a discount to customers who use credit cards that carry a lower processing fee. Merchants now pay a higher fee on cards that offer customers rewards for purchases.
This raises the question of whether the Vermont vote is the start of a national movement, as some supporters suggest.
