Thunder Ridge® emu products are made of oil derived from the fat of the emu bird, which contains 22 fatty acids including the essential fatty acids. Emu oil is an ancient healing tool, first used by the native people of Australia, to treat the skin, muscles, scalp and hair, and joints, and studies show that the oil has anti-aging, moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. Emu oil is used to treat age spots, bed sores, calluses, dry skin, eye irritation, wrinkles and fine lines, hair loss, diaper rash, swelling, skin rashes, and many more conditions.
16 emu products available
Thunder Ridge® emu products are available in several sizes for a variety of uses. Products include pure Emu Oil, in sizes from two to 32 ounces, Intensive Pain Relief, Maintenance Plus, Comfort Glide Shaving Oil, Body Mist, Moisturizing Lotion, Massage Lotion, Neat Feet, Multi-Purpose Gel, Emu Bar Soap, Nail Renu, Rapid Relief, Gel Caps and Lip Refresher. “The pure Emu Oil product is our most popular seller. Thunder Ridge® Emu Oil is being used by Donna Karan, Estée Lauder and Christian Dior in their anti aging skin care products,” states Anne Geller, president. “People use it to treat a number of skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis. It contains Omega 3, which is a natural anti-inflammatory, so many people say it helps with chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia. It never ceases to amaze me all the things the oil can do.”
Thunder Ridge® emu products are refined at Texas A&M University, and certified through the American Oil Chemists’ Society and the American Emu Association. The most popular sizes sold by retailers are the two-ounce bottle, which wholesales for $10.20 and typically retails for $17, and the four-ounce bottle, which wholesales for $16.80 and retails for $28.
Company history
Geller has raised emus since 1993 on her 30-acre ranch outside of Manassas, VA. “One just doesn’t wake up one morning and say ‘I’m going to be an emu rancher,’ but that is what happened to me,” Geller recalls. “I just knew I was going to raise these birds.” Today, around 2,000 emus, flightless birds that are around five feet tall and can weigh more than 100 pounds, roam freely in large fenced pastures in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains. Thunder Ridge is the largest emu farm in the eastern United States.
Buying details
Thunder Ridge’s minimum opening order is $150 and reorder is $100. “However, making long-term relationships is much more important to me, so I am willing to work with people who need to place smaller orders,” Geller shares. The company has shelf tuckers that supplement the product information found on the label.
