IR monthIndependent Retailer Month is a shop local campaign that runs annually throughout July encouraging consumers to shop at independent retailers; highlighting their positive social and economic impact – locally, nationally and globally.

The organization encourages people to shop independent retailers year-round and to use July as a time to celebrate the independent retailers that help build our economy by creating more sustainable cities, towns and communities. By engaging independent retailer associations, small business organizations and retail thought leaders; Independent Retailer Month seeks to demonstrate the importance of shopping independent. Follow these three simple steps to make your business part of Independent Retailer Month.

Step 1. Promote Your Store
Raise awareness for the campaign by adding Independent Retailer Month materials to your in-store displays, social media, newsletter, and website.

Step 2. Involve Your Community
Make sure your local Chamber of Commerce and other small businesses know about the campaign. Share information and marketing materials. Also be sure to put posters and postcards in community hubs like grocery stores and coffee shops to raise consumer awareness. Attend any community meetings to discuss Independent Retailer Month with local officials and organizations.
