Thanksgiving Online Sales Top $1 billionThanksgiving online sales totaled $1.06 billion in the U.S., according to Adobe Systems, which analyzed 180 million visits to more than 1,000 U.S. retail websites. Revenue for leading online retailers rose nearly 40 percent from last year, ecommerce firm Monetate reports. The increases included a 73.6 percent rise in revenue from shoppers using tablets, a 50.7 percent rise in sales to smartphone users, and a 39.8 percent increase in revenues via laptop and desktop computers. A record 21 percent of all Thanksgiving online sales came through mobile devices this year, with $152 million spent via tablets and $70 million via smartphones. Average Thanksgiving Day order value increased 11.8 percent for leading ecommerce retailers over 2012.

The National Retail Federation reports that total estimated spending over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend fell from last year, as holiday shoppers took advantage of earlier store openings on Thanksgiving Day. Overall spending was expected to reach $57.4 billion for the weekend, down from $59.1 billion in 2012, the first decline in spending since 2009. Shoppers spent an average $407 Thursday through Sunday, compared with around $423 in 2012. The NRF says earlier discounts led consumers to shop before the weekend, but total holiday sales through the year’s end are expected to increase by 3.9 percent to $602.1 billion.
