Retailers around the world are reporting that shoplifting and theft in general are down due to increased security and anti-theft measures, a new report has found.
The annual survey by the Centre for Retail Research, an independent retail consulting firm based in the U.K., measures “shrinkage,” which includes shoplifting, supplier fraud, internal errors and employee theft, at retailers in 42 countries including the U.S., China, Australia, France, Germany, Brazil, South Africa and India.
The 2010 Global Retail Theft Barometer report showed retailers’ losses from shrinkage were $107.3 billion, which is 5.6 percent less than last year.
