Logica CorporationLogica Corp., founded in 1997, can save mid market and high volume shippers money on shipping costs by analyzing carrier bids and negotiating rates, providing web analytics on individual shipping data, auditing freight invoices from FedEx, UPS, LTL, Ocean and others, and obtaining refunds on carrier overcharges. “Our studies reveal that most companies that spend $500,000 a year or more on shipping charges overpay by 13 percent a year, on average,” explains Andrew Parker, director of marketing and communications. “That’s a savings of $65,000 a year. Customers send us their shipping data, we upload it into our system, perform the audit and contact the shipper. Our clients don’t have to do anything and refunds just show up on their statements. We only charge a fee if we find overcharges, and it’s only a small percentage of the refund amount.”

Dissects Data in Multiple Ways

Logica examines 45 possible overage points, the most common of which are residential and address correction fees, and checks to be sure clients received refunds they were due for packages not delivered on time. To be sure companies are paying the lowest possible shipping rates, Logica also offers a service it calls Carrier Contract Optimization. “We analyze contracts to find savings and we renegotiate with the shipping company,” Parker continues, “and again we only charge a fee that is a percentage of the savings we’re able to negotiate. We usually find savings of 15 to 20 percent on top of the audit refunds.”

Along with audit and carrier contract optimization services, Logica has built a suite of web analytic tools that slice and dice clients’ shipping data to see where additional savings can be found. The tools reveal such things as the number of second day air shipments sent to a particular location, and the cost and number of shipments out of a particular distribution center. The analytics are free to audit clients and available to other companies for a monthly subscription fee. Clients, which include retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers, and span every industry, must have a minimum annual shipping spend of $500,000.
