Retailers are more optimistic about seasonal hiring, with 83 percent saying they expect to hire the same number or more workers than they did last year, according to new data from the Hay Group consulting firm.
But those same retailers say they expect to delay that hiring until they get a better indication of impending consumer action, the report also states.
By the numbers, the majority of the retailers—some 61 percent—will be holding hiring at 2009 levels. But 22 percent plan to hire between 5 percent and 15 percent more workers.
